Cooper City DECA – 2009 State Career Development Conference

When

March 5 through March 8, 2009

Departure

Thursday, March 5, 2009. Be at the high school by 7:15 AM. Report directly to cafeteria with your luggage. The bus vendor is Classic Lines (BCPS approved).

Chaperons

There will be 130 students attending from CCHS DECA. There will be ten chaperones including seven teachers and three parent volunteers.

Business Attire

Students will be required to wear appropriate business attire while competing. A descrition of suggest business attire is found here.

Rules Meetings

We require all students to attend one rules meeting prior to departing on the trip. Rules meetings will be held after school on 2/18, 2/26, and 3/2 in room 219. Attendance at one meeting is mandatory or you will not travel.

Packing List

A detailed itinerary and suggested packing list will be provided at the rules meeting. It can also be found online on this page. Students are responsible for all meals and miscellaneous expenses, except dinner Saturday evening.

Return

Sunday, March 8, 2009. The bus will return to Cooper City in the late afternoon – approximately 4:00 PM.


Regarding Business Attire

As an organization committed to the development of young men and women with an interest in business, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship, we stress the important of learning to dress appropriately and professionally.

During competition, all students will be required to wear appropriate business attire. These options include:

Young Men:

  • Business sure, collared shirt, tie
    or
  • Sport coat, dress slacks, collared shirt, tie
    or
  • Official DECA Blazer, dress slacks, collared shirt, tie
    and
  • Dress shoes, hosiery, belt, etc.

Men: Shirts must be tucked in neatly. Don’t forget dress belt and socks.

Young Ladies:

  • Business suit
    or
  • Blazer with dress blouse and dress skirt or slacks
    or
  • Official DECA Blazer with dress blouse and dress skirt or slacks
    or
  • Business dress, or a blazer over a dress
    and
  • Dress shoes and hosiery, tasteful jewelry

Ladies: Hosiery is mandatory – judges may not let you compete if your legs are not covered. Please avoid attire that is too short or too revealing. Dress conservatively!

  2. Have your manual presentations ready by Monday February 23 to show Mr. Chalk.
      a. Sign up during lunch by the end of this week.
  3. Email cchsdecatests@gmail.com if you need more tests to study for nationals.
  4. Rules meeting Wednesday February 18, Thursday February 26, and Monday March 2. MANDATORY IF YOU WANT TO GO TO STATES!!!
  5. Role play practice Tuesday February 17, Thursday February 19, and Tuesday March 3. After school in Mr. Chalk’s room (219).

District Award Ceremony

January 9, 2009

When: Tuesday, January 20, 2009
Plan to Arrive: 6:30 PM (Awards start at 7PM)

DECA Appropriate business attire required.

Directions from University Drive and Stirling Road:

University Drive north to SW 30th (Abe Fischler Blvd.) (Nova Health Center and Walgreens at that intersection) Turn right and go approximately .6 miles to NSU’s North Entrance. There are signs there indicating the NSU North Entrance, the Public Library, and the UC (University Center) Arena. Turn right into the entrance. The UC Arena will be straight ahead and a four-deck packing garage on the right. Park in the garage. Bring $5 for parking. Walk past the Alvin Sherman Library to the UC Arena.

Each school has assigned seating. Look for the Cooper City section. Students will sit in the lower bowl and parents will sit in the upper bowl.

  1. Everyone sohuld have signed up for testing, this is the LAST week to sign up or you will be assigned a category the day testing takes place.
  2. Domino’s fundraiser pre-sale
    1. $10 cards (buy one pizza get one free)
    2. Write pre-sales on sheet and keep track of money
    3. The actual sale starts January 5th
    4. You will have to transfer the purchases from the given sheet onto the new sheet that Domino’s will give us later
  3. District testing is right around the corner on January 7th!!
  4. DECA Quiz Bowl is taking place here at CCHS on January 15th
  5. Participating events will take place on January 9th
    1. Technical sales
    2. Advertising Campaign
    3. Entrepreneurship participating (Broward County Extension Office)
    4. Fashion promotion (Florida Career College)
    5. Members participating in these events will have to miss school on this day. You will know where your event is by Friday, see Mr. Chalk for details and locations
  6. Please remind your teachers to hand out the Computer Fun compatibility tests because we are collecting them on Wednesday
  7. Manuals must be turned in by January 6th
  8. If you need your service hours signed for bringing in wrapping paper and tape go to room 219 to see Mr. Chalk during A or B lunch

1. BRING IN WRAPPING PAPER AND TAPE we need to have all our wrapping paper by next week and so far we have none, you get one service hour for bringing 2 rolls of paper and one roll of plain scotch tape
2. Keep Signing up for Tests, categories are still open but are starting to fill up
3. CCHSDECATESTS at GMAIL dot COM continue to send your test requests in, we are checking the email daily and always scanning new tests so as soon as you know what category you want to test in- send us an email
4. District Testing is January 7th so start studying
5. All competing manuals must be turned in BEFORE winter break
6. Dominos Pizza card sale begins next month (free large pizza with the purchase of a large pizza at menu price)
